âWas this his idea?!â I screamed.
âHe said you needed a break. We agreed. You agree. What difference does it make?â Soraya asked.
âBecause I canât leave the human world. I need to be there in case someone finds Callum or if he tries to contact me,â I said.
âWhen we go back, we will go back only minutes after we left. Thereâs no time here. Itâs Neverland,â she said with a grin.
âAre you telling me that, that, thatâ¦â I sputtered and pointed at the seat where the young man had been sitting. He was gone.
âYep,â she said. âIsnât that cool? Although, I hear heâs pretty frisky with the ladies.â
âHeâs a kid! No, no.â I tried shaking the smirking boy out of my mind. It reminded me of Kyrieâs smirk. âWhat is Pallas?â I asked.
âYou are asking too many questions. You are supposed to be relaxing. You donât have to figure everything out!â she shouted back at me as the music got louder and more frenzied.
âWho owns this bar?â I asked.
âWe might as well go. You are ruining it,â she said.
She moved toward the door when it flew open, and a beautiful woman walked in with two men on each side of her. I knew her. Iâd just seen her, and Seamus had led us to a trap.
âMiss Hamlet,â I said.
âWhy, Miss Riggs, I had no idea you frequented this establishment,â she said with a sly grin. She twiddled her red fingernails, and the wild thump of the music changed from club beats to sultry jazz. The appearance of the bar changed too.
âItâs my first time,â I said.
The bartender sat an amber glass of liquid on the bar for her. She took the cherry out of it and sucked it off the stem. âFirst times,â she cooed.
âWish us home,â Soraya hissed.
âYes, I could try to wish yourself home, but it wouldnât do any good. Havenât you heard of the mermaids of Neverland? We never let go,â she said.
âYou are technically a siren,â I said.
âHalf a dozen, one or the other,â she replied. âAll of our kind here were put here for being very, very bad.â She sat on a barstool and crossed her legs. One of her four men produced her long cigarette holder for her which she took, while another one of the men pulled a lighter out of his pocket. She inhaled, then exhaled a puff of smoke.
Soraya dug her nails into my back. âWish us home!â
âI wish we were back in my apartment,â I said. Nothing happened. No flash of light.
âWhat will the Queen do with two children missing?â she asked. âPerhaps she will lose her mind. I hear that she is in a fragile state.â
I laughed and held my gut. Maybe it was overkill, but I couldnât have her underestimating my mother. You donât corner a mama protecting her pups. âYou arenât talking about my mother. There has never been anything fragile about Grace Ann Bryant.â I didnât want to be trapped here, but if she wasnât making a move, Iâd see what kind of information I could figure out.
